President Muhammadu Buhari who had earlier arrived Paris for the 2021 Paris Peace Forum, attended the 75th Anniversary of UNESCO along with other Heads of State and Government on 12th November, 2021.
The President was welcomed to UNESCO by the Director-General of UNESCO – Ms. Audrey Azoulay, Minister of State for Education – Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Nigeria to UNESCO – H.E. Dr. Hajo Sani, OON and the Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations, UNESCO – Mr. Firmin Edourd Marino.
In his remarks, Mr. President expressed his happiness for being a part of the celebration and congratulated UNESCO and its current leadership, Ms. Audrey Azoulay, for keeping the vision of the Organization alive. Furthermore, the President pointed that “as we mark UNESCO’s anniversary, we must acknowledge that it is a celebration of history; an occasion to remind ourselves of how far we have traveled, seeking to achieve the founding objectives of this great intellectual hub of the United Nations.”
Mr. President also urged for global solidarity. He stated that “our world is fast changing and so are the evolving challenges. There is therefore, no better time to canvass for solidarity for the enthronement of peace and development,”
In addition, Mr. President felicitated all “Member-States, Associates and partners, who have walked the journey alongside UNESCO.”
