Visit of Study Group from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) to the Nigerian Delegation

On Tuesday, 13th July, 2021, the Permanent Delegation of Nigeria to UNESCO, welcomed a study group from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). The team was on a visit to France, one of the six selected countries for the intercontinental study tour with the theme,  “Getting Things Done: Strategies for Policy and Programme Implementation in Nigeria.”

The 17 members of the study group were welcomed to the Permanent Delegation by the Deputy Permanent Delegate, Mr. Imoh Sunday Egbo. The group was led by Prof. Funmi Josephine Para-Mallam, mni and comprised of Brig. Gen. Sylvester Olumuyinwa Oloyede, mni, Air Vice Marshall Abdullahi Anderson Kassimu, PhD, Dr. Solomon Anjide – Senior Fellow, Prof. Akeredolu Patricia Adetokunbo, two permanent Secretaries – ARDO Isa Shehu (Adamawa State) and Mohammed Abba (Jigawa State), two Nigerian Army Colonels – Col. Eka, Asuquo and Col. Garba, Illiyasu Nuhu, two Commissioners of Police – KA’OJE Ibrahim Sani and Usman Yusuf Chiromawa  , Mr. Diya Oyedamola Olorunfemi – Director, Presidency, and other Senior Executives as well as some staff of the Nigerian Embassy, France. 

During the visit, the Delegation’s Senior Research Officer, Dr. Aderemi Oladele, presented on UNESCO’s Strategy for Policy and Programme Implementation: Results Culture in Development Management, emphasizing results culture as a means of policy implementation. He explained how results-based management applies to policy making and its relevance to national policy implementation.

Subsequently, in the course of the visit, the Ambassador, Permanent Delegate H. E. Dr. Hajo Sani, OON, who is currently in Nigeria, video called into the meeting to welcome the study group and congratulate them on their participation in the training tour. In her remarks, she emphasized the significance of the Permanent Delegation and the role it has played over the years by “being a catalyst to enacting, interpreting and implementing in Nigeria, the policies and programmes that emanates from UNESCO.” Furthermore, she stated that “the study tour has an action and result-oriented objective of building leaders that are capable of transforming the Nigeria of our dream, ready to deliver quality policies and programmes for the good of its citizen.”

Following the Ambassador’s statement, the leader of the study group, Prof. Funmi Josephine Para-Mallam expressed her immense gratitude to the Ambassador for her remarks and congratulated the Ambassador for her recent appointment and confirmation as the new Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Nigeria to UNESCO.

The  study group was then taken on a brief tour of UNESCO’s Headquarters.
